The idea to renovate the existing MHS Weight Room came from Monrovia High School Football Coach Christian Williams. According to Principal Kirk McGinnis, “We are very thankful to Coach Williams. MHS student athletics will be greatly strengthened by this newly updated facility.”
It was Monrovia City Council Member Larry Spicer, a Monrovia High School Class of 1973 alum, who raised the funds, more than $24,000.00 to support the weight room renovation. Monrovia School Board President Rob Hammond said, “Mr. Spicer is an outstanding community leader who is been very supportive of our schools. He specifically enjoys supporting Wildcat athletics.”
“I am very pleased the improvements to the facility will be used and enjoyed by all athletic teams and PE classes at Monrovia High School,” Council Member Spicer said.
Board President Hammond added, “We want to thank all of the community patrons who generously contributed to supporting the weight room renovation at MHS including Athens Disposal, Baja Ranch Market, Bowden Construction, Darrell Brooke Law Firm, Gary Schaeffler, Mountjoy Construction, Gina Willard, Larry Spicer, Marvin Holmes, Paul Kalemkiarian (Wine of the Month Club), Sierra Auto Cars, and Mr. & Mrs. Victor Hoskins.”
The Weight Room Open House program will begin with Board President Hammond and Principal McGinnis at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9th followed by community patrons who will arrive later in the afternoon.
