MUSD Board of Education to Take Action on Hybrid Instructional Model During Special Board Meeting

Our elementary and secondary task force groups have worked tirelessly to develop a Hybrid Instructional Model that represents the needs of our community. During our Board of Education Meeting on March 10, a revised hybrid model was presented that took into consideration the challenge of dropping children off at school in the middle of the day and the need for meaningful instructional time with students.

The proposed hybrid schedule will split students into three cohorts: Cohort A and Cohort B, attending school for in-person instruction Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday, respectively; and Cohort C with students continuing with Distance Learning.

Students will arrive on campus by 8:30 a.m. and parents will have the opportunity to pick up their children at lunch to continue their educational day from home. Additional learning pods will be created to assist with the supervision of those students who are unable to go home until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday will be a full distance learning day for all students, allowing time for the deep cleaning of our campuses.

This model will now return to the Board of Education for approval  during a Special Board Meeting at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 12. You may tune in to this virtual meeting on YouTube, and submit public comments via email before the meeting.

If the hybrid model is approved on March 12, Monrovia Unified will stagger our return to school, by grade level, between March 25 and April 1. The District will make adjustments as necessary during spring break. View the District’s Teaching and Learning Pandemic Update for more information on the District’s return to school timeline and guidelines for reopening.

Returning to school for in-person instruction will not be mandatory, as families will have the option to remain in distance learning. Commitment forms will be sent out to our families following the Board vote on March 12, and principals will provide additional information with their respective school communities to discuss reopening details unique to their site.

It is important to note that if you indicate on your commitment form you intend to remain in Distance Learning, the commitment applies for the remainder of the school year. If Hybrid Learning does not meet the needs of your child(ren), you may opt to return to Distance Learning.

Monrovia Unified will move methodically through its reopening process, ensuring a safe return for our students, teachers, and school community for in-person instruction. We look forward to you joining us for a Special Meeting of the Board of Education  at 1 p.m. on March 12.

Sincerely,

Dr. Katherine Thorossian
