Recognitions

Applauding our Mayflower students and families who helped start our November Board meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance! Principal Michele Costarella highlighted the success of their WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program that helps promote campus safety with dads on campus. The Mena family did a great job updating the Board on what WATCH D.O.G.S. is all about and how they help at school.

The Board of Education approved the appointment for the following people/positions:

  • Jerome Adinoyi: Director of Fiscal Services
  • Fil Lujan: Principal of Canyon Oaks HS/Mountain Park School
  • Tedese Ross: Assistant Principal at our Adult School

All three new employees are fantastic additions to the leadership team at MUSD! We look forward to seeing their positive impact on our schools.

The Board of Education approved the naming of the MHS Industrial Arts Building, also known as the 700 building, after Anne Battle to recognize her more than 50 years of devoted service to the students and staff of the Monrovia Unified School District.

The Board approved the submission of the Continued Funding Application for Canyon Early Learning Center for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This funding helps provide a child development and school readiness program that offers full- and part-day preschool for 3- and 4-year-old children from low-income families.

Board members approved an extended field trip for Monrovia High School PLTW Engineering pathway students to participate in the California High-Speed Rail Construction Site and California State University of Fresno Engineering Department Visit in Fresno, California, from December 7-8, 2023. These engineering students get to see their field of study in action while touring the university.

The Board of Education approved a Professional Service Agreement with Hazel Health Inc. and Telehealth Services USA to provide telehealth-based professional health care services, therapy, and counseling services for students in all Monrovia Unified School District schools. This service gives MUSD another tool to help support the social-emotional needs of our students.

The Board approved the authorization to go to bid for the Roofing Replacement Project-District-Wide. This move will allow the district to collect proposals for the roofing projects at many of our sites around the district.

Board members publicly announced their intention to appoint Gina Peck-Sobolewski as the Board of Education appointee to the Personnel Commission. They set December 13, 2023, as a date for a public hearing regarding the appointment of Gina Peck-Sobolewski. Ms. Peck-Sobolewski will fill the vacant position left by Ms. Lupe Davis on the Personnel Commission after 22 years of service. The Commissioners meet monthly to take action on various items affecting the employment and compensation of classified employees.
