Happy New Year!

Dear Monrovia Parents and Community members,

It has been a week since we learned about the tragic death of our beloved student, Kelsey Meza, and her mother, Cecilia.

While giving high-fives and monitoring entrances, fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father-figures wished students a good day at school during the launch of Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) at Mayflower Elementary on Nov. 28.

Today was a hard day in Monrovia. Our students and our staff grieved for the loss of a friend, a student, a teen excited about going to college. The adults from elementary and middle school vividly remember a sweet, kind girl who always went out of her way to help others.

It is with great sadness that I share that we have lost one of our Monrovia High School seniors and her mother.

Monrovia Unified students will join a cast of professional actors, singers, and dancers in December for the theatrical production of “Annie,” Monrovia Theatre’s 12th professional show to be held at the Louise K. Taylor Performing Arts Center.

Hilda Olmos was all smiles as she accepted her graduation certificate from Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), a nine-week program offered by Monrovia Unified that teaches parents how to prepare their children for higher education, understand university entrance requirements, and navigate the complexities of financial aid and scholarships.
