Dear Monrovia Unified School District Family, 

My first two weeks serving as your superintendent have been fantastic! I have truly enjoyed visiting each of our schools, meeting students, teachers and staff, community members, and attending community events.

Dear Monrovia Unified School District Family,

I am excited to write this letter to you on my first official day as your superintendent. It is hard to truly express how much of an honor and a privilege it is to serve all of you in this capacity. I am grateful to our Board of Education for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading Monrovia Unified School District and ensuring world-class schools for world-class students.

Community activist and former Monrovia Unified Board Member Mimi Mency was honored during a dedication ceremony on June 29, when the Monrovia Unified Board of Education officially named the District Office Lobby in her memory.

Monrovia Unified School District Incoming Superintendent Dr. Ryan Smith discusses the excitement and challenges of assuming the top administrative post in Monrovia, meeting with stakeholders, welcoming students back to campus, and continuing the District’s tradition of academic excellence.

Nearly 430 graduates from Monrovia Unified School District cheered as they walked across the graduation stage to receive their diplomas during in-person and drive-thru commencement ceremonies, held June 8 and 9.

Summer Food Service Program for Children

Longtime Monrovia Unified educator Susan Hirsch dedicated her career to championing student wellness and equipping students with the skills and support for success.

Hirsch, who died in December 2020, worked in Monrovia Unified for more than 30 years, building a legacy of compassion and connection. On June 3, the Board of Education dedicated Monrovia High School’s Wellness Center – of which Hirsch was the architect – in her memory, renaming it the Susan Hirsch Wellness Center.

Dear Monrovia Unified Community

In just a couple short weeks our students, teachers, and staff will wrap up a school year that was unlike any we have ever experienced. I want to take this opportunity to thank our entire school community for accepting the challenges of this school year with grace and flexibility. We demonstrated the qualities that make Monrovia Unified School District a truly remarkable community.

The Board of Education has selected Dr. Ryan Smith as the District’s new Superintendent, bringing nearly 25 years of education experience to the District. Smith is scheduled to begin his position on July 1.

We are so pleased to share the video link for our Virtual, Superstars of Music Showcase 2021 with all of you. Our music teachers and students have worked so hard this year under extraordinary circumstances.
