The need for constant communication with our students, families, teachers, staff, and community is more vital now than ever. The District has adopted ParentSquare, a new form of communication that we are actively preparing to launch. Stay tuned for an introductory email from ParentSquare.

Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

We are aware of the impact this extended dismissal has had on our entire community. Our students, especially, were required to change their routines in a way that can be hard to understand.

We can’t wait until we are allowed to return to school and are able to reunite with our students and colleagues. Because of this, we are excited to share that we will be celebrating our scholars with a parade at 10 a.m. Friday, April 10.

As our “spring break” draws to a close, we wanted to provide you with a summary of the resources available throughout the District in order to provide support during this extended dismissal period. All of the links are being updated regularly as new resources and information becomes available.

We will continue to do our very best to anticipate the challenges that come with this public health crisis.

Estimada comunidad del Distrito Unificado de Monrovia,

A medida que nuestro “receso de la primavera” llega a su fin, queremos proporcionarle un resumen de los recursos disponibles a través del Distrito con el fin de apoyar a nuestros estudiantes durante este periodo de receso extendido. Tzu Chi, a local humanitarian organization and private school, donated 2,000 surgical masks and 1,000 portable hand sanitizers to the City of Monrovia on March 31, with a portion of the donation going to Monrovia Unified School District to ensure the continued safety of staff, students, and families.

In addition to the masks and sanitizer, Tzu Chi also donated gloves and bottles of surface disinfectant.

Amid the concerns regarding COVID-19 and extended student dismissal, Monrovia Unified School District is ensuring students receive daily nutrition through a Grab-and-Go meal distribution program, which provides free breakfast and lunch for children ages 18 and under.

Dear MUSD Community,

The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. Today, we face a decision that puts that to the test. Governor Gavin Newsom, in his press conference, said he expected that “schools will not reopen.” State Superintendent Tony Thurmond noted, “it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year.” State health officials have made it clear that the safest place to be is home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With these in mind, the Board of Education, during an emergency meeting on Wednesday, April 1, determined to extend our student dismissal until the end of the school year.

Estimada comunidad del MUSD,

La salud y seguridad de nuestra comunidad es nuestra principal prioridad. Hoy, estamos enfrentando una decisión que puso esto a prueba. El Governor Gavin Newsom, en su conferencia de prensa, dijo que como era de esperarse “las escuelas no reabrirán.” El Superintendente del estado Tony Thurmond mencionó, “en este momento parece que nuestros estudiantes no podrán regresar a los planteles escolares antes del final del año escolar.” Los funcionarios de salud del estado han dejado claro que el lugar más seguro para estar es el hogar durante la pandemia del COVID-19.

Con esto en mente, el Consejo de Educación, durante una reunión de emergencia el miércoles 1ro de abril, determinó la extensión del receso de nuestros estudiantes hasta el final del año escolar.
