Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

From the very start of distance learning, Monrovia Unified has committed its time to ensuring our students and teachers have the tools and resources they need to be successful. In conjunction with those efforts, our Elementary and Secondary Task Force groups have worked tirelessly to develop Hybrid Instructional Models that allow our students to return for in-person instruction.

As we begin the process of reopening our elementary campuses for in-person hybrid instruction, I want to assure our students, teachers, staff, and families that the health and safety of our entire school community remains our top priority.

With the one-year mark of distance learning approaching, I know we are all hopeful for the light at the end of the tunnel. COVID-19 cases and positivity rates are on a steady decline and the possibility to welcome all of our students back for in-person instruction is right around the corner.

Good afternoon Monrovia families and friends,

We want you to know that we will not be distributing any meals to our community’s children on Friday, March 5, 2021, due to our All Staff In-Service, instead we will distribute a double breakfast, lunch, supper, and snack meal to all the children in our community on Thursday, March 4, 2021, 7:30 am – 11:30 am at all of our school sites.

Please join us tonight, March 2, 2021, @ 6 pm, for a Special Board of Education meeting to discuss the hybrid model of instruction proposed for the reopening of elementary schools.

Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

I hope you were able to join us last night as our Elementary Task Force presented their recommended model for hybrid instruction. This collaborative and dedicated group of teachers, parents, support staff, and administrators investigated many models over the last couple of months and realized no single model would meet the disparate needs of our community. The proposed model presented last night is unique to the MUSD community.

Feb. 18, 2021

Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

On Feb. 15, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) announced that L.A. County had reached the threshold that allows elementary schools – TK-6 – to reopen for in-person instruction. As MUSD middle schools begin at grade 6, they are structurally different from elementary schools and are not included in the reopening plans at this time.

Last Friday, I shared updates about the criteria for the reopening of schools and information about vaccines. Much has happened over the last few days and that information needs to be updated yet again.

Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have learned a great deal, and both national and international studies increasingly demonstrate the relatively low COVID-19 transmission rates in younger children. According to the latest "California Safe Schools for All" guidelines, elementary schools will be allowed to open much sooner than middle schools and high schools. For that reason, much of the work done to develop safe in-person instruction has been based at the elementary level.
